It is a genuine fragment of pre-settlement Ontario \u2014 black oak savannah, spring-fed ravine, a kilometre-long pond with beavers in it \u2014 that the city grew around instead of over. Riverdale Park East is a long grass hill falling west into the Don valley, and because nothing stands between it and downtown, the entire skyline lines up across the top of the trees \u2014 best at sunset, better still on a clear winter evening.
