Their goal was to accelerate solutions to pressing environmental problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, the organization focused on air pollution in Ontario. Over time, however, Pollution Probe expanded its scope to address other forms of environmental pollution and tackle nationwide ecological challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Initiatives\"><\/span>Key Initiatives<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization actively campaigned to restrict the use of DDT, an insecticide commonly applied to control pests in crops like cotton, peanuts, and soy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1970, Pollution Probe pushed for legislation to limit the phosphate content in dishwashing detergents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 1973, it had initiated Ontario\u2019s first recycling program, and in 1979, it played a key role in advocating for laws to curb acid rain-related emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Air_Campaigns\"><\/span>Air Campaigns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong>In 1988, the organization supported regulations to remove lead from gasoline. In 1993, it launched a campaign focused on cleaner air on roadways, aiming to raise public awareness about environmentally friendly transportation options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This effort culminated in a significant achievement in 1998: mandatory vehicle emissions testing was introduced in Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stricter_Regulations\"><\/span>Stricter Regulations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong>In 2004, Pollution Probe spearheaded the adoption of additional provincial rules requiring metal industries to reduce acid rain-causing emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 2010, the organization convinced the government to implement rules limiting greenhouse gas emissions from passenger and freight vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Promoting_Electric_Mobility\"><\/span>Promoting Electric Mobility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong>In 2013, Pollution Probe began collaborating with energy companies on a project to advance and forecast the adoption of electric mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2016, it released a report recommending strategies to increase the sales and use of electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Significant_Milestone\"><\/span>A Significant Milestone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong>In 2017, Pollution Probe became a member of an advisory group tasked with developing a plan to expand the number of zero-emission vehicles.
