Her success in these roles quickly bore fruit, and she was soon appointed as an assistant professor before eventually leading the genetics department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_Roles\"><\/span>New Roles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brenda served as the head of the genetics department for five years. Following this, she took on the role of chair of the Banting &amp; Best Department of Medical Research and became the director of the university\u2019s genetic research centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While holding these leadership positions, she successfully steered departments focused on cutting-edge medical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Significant_Project\"><\/span>A Significant Project<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brenda gained widespread recognition for her research on the cell cycle and the functions of yeast protein kinases. She also co-authored pioneering work in genetic networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2015, she led a team of biologists at the University of Toronto in creating a detailed protein map of the cell. This map illustrated the arrangement of proteins within a cell and was designed to advance cancer research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project involved analyzing data from 20 million cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Importantly, Andrews sought to demonstrate that a single gene is extraordinarily complex and capable of interacting with other genes in intricate ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"University_Faculty_Member\"><\/span>University Faculty Member<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brenda remains an integral part of the University of Toronto, where she is a faculty member at the Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research.
